GlowTouch Technologies Repeat Sponsor for Startup Weekend Louisville

LOUISVILLE – March 8, 2013 – GlowTouch Technologies, an award-winning IT services firm providing custom application development and technology integration services to businesses around the world, announced today their sponsorship of Startup Weekend Louisville, which was held the weekend of March 1-3, 2013 at the Jefferson Community & Technical College Small Business and Entrepreneurship Center.

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement to equip emerging entrepreneurs with knowledge in regards to launching successful business ventures. Since its inception six years ago, Startup Weekend has grown into a worldwide non-profit that has hosted more than 400 events around the globe. The organization, which is headquartered in Seattle, spans 300+ cities in over 100 countries.

The weekend-long workshops are designed to encourage and support emerging entrepreneurs by providing them with a hands-on business learning experience. Every Startup Weekend follows the same model: entrepreneurs pitch their ideas and the top ideas are selected by popular vote. Teams are then formed around the selected ideas and work begins to establish the framework of the business. At the end of the 54-hour work period, presentations are made to local entrepreneurial leaders for critical feedback.

This year, a push was made for more female involvement in Startup Weekend. Last year’s event saw only one female participant throughout the entire weekend. This year, almost a quarter of the participants, three of the judges, and two of the mentors were women.

GlowTouch has long been a strong supporter of women in technology, so in addition to serving as an event sponsor, offered free tickets to facilitate involvement of female software developers and designers. In fact, Sam Borstadt, leader of the winning team, Tally Rally, was able to participate in Startup Weekend by using one of the coupons GlowTouch provided.

“Startup Weekend Louisville is a wonderful opportunity for all of the area’s up-and-coming entrepreneurs to share and grow their ideas with likeminded individuals and veterans of the Louisville business community,” said Vidya Ravichandran, president of GlowTouch Technologies. “Participating in creative business collaborations is an invaluable experience, and I applaud Startup Weekend for their dedication to the spirit of entrepreneurialism, especially as that spirit grows among women.”
